Signs Of Age Related Macular Degenareation
Are there any specific signs and signals that you should watch for if you think you might have Age Related Macular Degenaration (ARMD)? The answer to this question is “Yes” and the warning signs and symptoms are quite easily to recognize. ARMD is a disease that no on wants to have, especially people who are starting to “get along in years”. It is primarily a disease of the older generation, but it can start appearing as early as age 50. In the very early stages of the disease, there may be no symptoms at all. But, as time goes by, your central vision field becomes blurred. You also may have blind spots that appear randomly in your central vision as well as wavy lines.
Dry ARMD shows itself initially as blurred or fuzzy vision. The distorted areas usually appear right in the middle of your central vision field. Colors no longer appear vibrant and objects are distorted. You find that you have a hard time doing detail work and reading even though you can see well enough to go about your daily routines. The disease will get worse and you will soon find that you need more light to do anything that you are used to doing. The blurred areas in your central vision become larger and larger and you begin to see large dark areas as well. It’s possible that you no longer are able to recognize the faces of people who are closest to you. Even though your central vision becomes drastically distorted, you won’t see much change in your peripheral vision. So, as a result, the disease doesn’t often lead to complete and total blindness.
Wet ARMD shows different signs when it is present. Straight lines start to appear wavy and often have dark areas in the middle of them. Your central vision may have one small dark spot right at the center. Over time this spot gets larger and larger. This form of the disease progresses to the advanced stage very, very quickly and you should seek medical assistance right away if you have any signs of ARMD.
If you experience any of the warning signs of Age Related Macular Degenaration, then it’s time for you to give the matter serious attention. Dry ARMD can be treated with vitamins and other components and wet ARMD responds well to surgery, laser treatments and medicines.
